Today we went to the pediatrician for Addie P's four month check up and Dr. Ball said we could begin to introduce some food! She told us to begin with some rice cereal. The first couple months eating is really more for developmental purposes than nutrition. Addie needs to learn the mechanics of eating and as you can see in the video, she has a lot to learn. It will take some time for her to learn which direction the food goes and how to swallow, etc. But because her little taste buds are so new the very bland rice makes her act as if we put lemons in her mouth. Pretty funny. Our little girl is growing!

Addie Pearl Breeden was baptized on June 5, 2011 (Ascension Sunday) at Sovereign Grace Presbyterian Church.

Different denominations have different views of the meaning of infant baptism, so for a concise article describing what our denomination, the Presbyterian Church of America, belives about it, go here.

It was a delighful day for our little family.

Today Addie Pearl is two weeks old! We took a couple photos to commemorate the milestone. In this picture she is wearing a shirt that we bought on a Monday night in October 2010, the day we found out we were having a girl. I'm pretty sure even that night driving home from Target we were almost settled on the name Addie Pearl.

This section covers our transition to the Postpartum Room (which we spent the rest of our hospital stay in) and Addie meeting Shalaine's parents aka Nanah and Pap. (Notice the little cone head Addie was sporting.)

Addie had low blood sugar when she was born-- because she and Shalaine hadn't eaten all day-- and so they had to stabilize her blood sugar before they brought her to our room. It felt like it took forever, but it was really only about two hours from the time we left the Recovery Room, in which we spent about two hours. Addie was born at 6:53 PM, but these pictures weren't taken until just a few minutes before midnight on March 10. We were all ready to see our little girl.

Over the next few days, I'm going to try to post many of the hospital photos here on this blog in order to have them all in one place. So, look forward to photos of family, friends, and more Addie Pearl!

Part one covers our time in the Labor and Delivery Room (which we spent about twelve hours in but is only represented by a couple photos here--as you can imagine, Shalaine was NOT in the mood to have her picture taken in there), Addie's first bath, and mama's first time holding Addie in the Recovery Room. Because Shalaine was on an IV all day, she and Addie were filled with fluid by the time Addie was born. So Addie looks a bit like an elderly, Asian man during her bath.

This is one of the last photos taken of Shalaine before Addie was born. I remember she was pretty worn out at that point and ready to have our baby. It already seems like such a long time ago.

(For those wondering, the big box on the couch was box of goodies from Shalaine's brother, Stuart.)
